Menstrual Cycle Phases…

What are they and why do they matter?

There are four hormone phases in the women’s menstrual cycle. They all have important roles, but what are they?

Menstrual phase:

Typically lasts 1-5 days. This phase is made for deep rest and reflection. This is a wonderful time to reflect on the past month to plan ahead for the next. Most women benefit from alone time and less physical activity. Less doesn’t mean no physical activity though. Some activities that would benefit this phase are yoga, walking, shopping, etc.

Follicular phase:

Typically lasts 5 days. This phase is made for renewal. You’ve shed a layer of your uterus and your body knows it. This is a great time to be creative. Go do new things, get your newfound energy out! Most women want to try something new or do something creative. Some activities you may consider are hiking, cardio, going to a new place, start new projects, etc.

Ovulatory phase:

Typically lasts 7 days. This phase is made for motivation and collaboration. This is a great time to start a new project, either at work or in your personal life. You will want to be social. Some things you’ll consider doing in this phase is collaborative work projects, being social with friends/family, post on social media more often, and network.

Luteal phase:

Typically lasts 12 days. This phase is made for completion and allowing. Your body is getting ready to shed another lining of your uterus. This is a great time to prepare by getting organizing tasks out of the way, finish projects, stay inside the house more, etc. Prepare yourself for the reflecting in the menstrual phase.
